Biographical
Information
Rob van Vuuren graduated from Rhodes University with an honours
degree in drama in 1997. He has taught at schools festivals
around the country since 1997 and his Mung Fu workshops have
been hugely successful and popular at these events. He has also
taught at a University level to first and second year students
at Rhodes University and the University of Cape Town.
Occasionally he incites corporate clerical workers into moving
outside of their comfort zones with a series of zany ,highly
enjoyable and playful team building sessions.
As an actor he has enjoyed success on stage and screen. He has
been nominated for a Vita Best Actor Award for his portrayal of
Al in Joshua Lindberg’s production of Birdy as
well as a Fleur Du Cap Best Supporting Actor nomination for his
portrayal of Ray Dooley in Janice Honeymans production of
The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Rob has been creating his
own work since 1995 and has had great success and acclaim
countrywide, specifically with his one man shows Mung
(1999) and Tangkupa (2001).This work is primarily
mimetic in nature but employs influences from afar a field as
Kung Fu, Rock Climbing, Dance and Butoh. The result is a unique
form of physical comedy rich in invention, multiple
characterization and energy.
Rob is currently working on various film and t.v. scripts as
well as the hit comedy show The Most Amazing Show
which is on the fast track to cult status. The show is off the
wall, comedic insanity which has unlimited potential in a
variety of different mediums. TMAS and its two
hilarious hosts Corne and Twakkie have toured the country as a
stage show ( including a run of the show at the Smirnoff
International Comedy Festival ), appeared as columnists for For
Him Magazine and Student Life and starred in their very own Road
Trip Movie.
