Biographical
Information
Jaci Smith – actor, singer, writer, director, producer.
She studied a Bilingual Performer’s Diploma at UCT. (received
Fleur Du Cap most promising performer 1993), studied Opera under
Wendy Fine and Sarita Stern(UCT).
Some theatre highlights include – “For Better for Wors”
(awarded “search for new plays” writers grant,
co–wrote/performed with Rob Hobbs). “Pineapple Velvet”
– one woman cabaret directed by Charmaine Weir Smith (Nominated
for three FNB Vita awards), “I love you, you’re Perfect,
Now Change” (FNB Vita nomination – best actress) and “Annie”
(Civic). “HONK” (FNB Vita ensemble nomination),
Deon Oppermans - “Vere”, Mark Grahams - “Fielas
Child” (artscape) and Martinus Bassons, “Macbeth”
and “Boy meets Boy”. She also performed with the
“Cape Town Theatre Sports” team for five years and worked with
“Theatre for Africa” and “Hearts and eyes Theatre Collective”.
She co wrote – “The search for the perfect Dish”,
“Tower of Tongues”, “She Gau”
(received new female playwrights award), “Virtual Bioscope”
(Musical) and “For Better for Wors”.
Recently directed Gys De Villiers, “SUIG”(awarded Anglo
Gold Smeltkroesprys and Beeld Plus Aardvark prys) and “Boekman”
written by Harry Kalmer.
Produced – “Pineapple Velvet”, “For Better
for wors” (co – produced), “SUIG” and “Boekman”.
She currently writes, directs and performs for various corporate
theatre companies in Johannesburg. |
