Hlubi Mboya

Hlubi Mboya Biographical Information

Hlubi Mboya is most probably best known for her role as Nandipha in the successful SABC 3 soapie, Isidingo. Not only did this role make her a instant household name in South Africa, but has also enabled her to travel throughout Africa to places such as Tanzania & Zambia as a HIV/AIDS ambassador. Her most important representation was at the Tshwane University where she spoke about the future global impact of HIV on the youth. She has also broached this subject on Radio stations such as Umhlobo Wenene, YFM, 702, 5FM and Metro. “Nandipha have opened doors for me. I have become a role model, educator, agony aunt, and a nurse. In fact, I have become involved in many levels of HIV/AIDS through my role.”

Hlubi made her acting debut in Isidingo in 2000. “I love what I do. Originally I studied 3rd world politics and world labour law at UCT. Now I see myself as a lawyer and politician in my art.”

Hlubi has appeared on the covers of South Africa’s foremost magazines: “I like the fact that magazines consider me, and associate me, to glamour. “At some point I was on the cover of 3 magazines in the same month.” She is the proudest of her Elle cover, as she was the first black woman (non- model) to grace its glossy front page.

Hlubi has recently added a feature film behind her name. She has just completed a Kung Fu movie, Shogun Khumalo Is Dying, (by DC Studios). It was directed, written, and produced entirely by South Africans. “It was wonderful to be part of a movement in movies that involved martial arts, esopecially in South Africa”

In April Hlubi took a month off from Isidingo in order to present the 2nd series of It’s For Life. “I didn’t feel like I was a presenter, I felt like one of the contestants. I really enjoyed it as I am a hands-on girl. Its For Life taught me spiritual truths like karma (yin & yang) and personal truths such as ‘once you know better, you can do better’. Living in a world that is economic and capitalistic I’ve come to realize that at the end of the day it’s about creating your own reality successfully.”

So, what does the future hold for Hlubi? “I just want to be a student of life… I want to be a student of the world… I want an Oscar, badly… I want to excel in excellence and not perfection. Through reaching all my dreams, I believe that wealth, power, knowledge and wisdom will come without me asking for it. I also want to enter the corporate world through marketing and consultancy. I want to open a guesthouse, as I love the art of hospitality and comfort. I love cooking.
